This page explains what information The Robyn Effect (“I,” “me,” or “the site”) collects when you visit therobyneffect.com, how I use it, and the choices you have. The short version: I collect only what I need to run the site, answer your messages, and send the newsletter if you sign up. I do not sell your personal information.
Who I am
The Robyn Effect is a personal lifestyle blog written and run by Robyn. If you have any questions about this policy, email therobyneffect@gmail.com.
Information you give me
- Contact form. If you write to me through the contact form, I receive your name, email address, the topic you chose, and your message.
- Newsletter. If you subscribe, I collect your email address so I can send you updates.
- Comments. If you leave a comment on a post, I collect the name, email address, and comment you submit, along with your IP address and browser details to help catch spam.
Information collected automatically
When you visit the site, certain information is collected automatically, such as your IP address, browser and device type, the pages you view, the page that sent you here, and the date and time of your visit. This comes from my web host’s server logs and from the tools described below.
Cookies and similar technologies
Cookies are small files that a website stores in your browser. Pixels and similar tools do a similar job. Here is what may be used on this site:
- Essential and site-function cookies, such as the ones that remember your comment details or keep forms working.
- Analytics and security tools, which help me understand which posts are useful and protect the site from abuse. These are provided by Jetpack (Automattic) and Akismet (Automattic).
- Affiliate cookies. When you click an affiliate link (see below), the company on the other end, such as Amazon, may set its own cookies so it can track the referral. I don’t control those cookies.
- Fonts. The site loads its typefaces from Google Fonts, so your IP address and browser details are sent to Google when a page loads.
Your choices. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, though some parts of the site may not work as well. You can also opt out of interest-based advertising through the Digital Advertising Alliance, the Network Advertising Initiative, and Amazon’s advertising preferences.
Affiliate links and sponsored content
Some links on this site are affiliate links. If you click one and buy something, I may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. I only recommend things I actually think are worth your time and money, and I will say so when a post contains affiliate links or is sponsored.
The Robyn Effect is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
When you click an Amazon link, Amazon may place cookies in your browser and may collect information about your visit to this site and your use of those links, under Amazon’s own privacy notice. I receive reports about clicks and purchases, but not your name or other personal details about you. I may also work with other affiliate programs and brands, which may set their own cookies in the same way.
How I use your information
- To reply to your messages and questions.
- To send the newsletter, if you subscribed.
- To run, secure, and improve the site, including blocking spam.
- To understand which content is helpful to readers.
- To meet legal obligations, including tracking affiliate commissions and keeping reasonable records.
Who I share information with
I do not sell your personal information. I share it only with the services that help me run the site, and only as needed:
- My web hosting provider, which stores the site and its data.
- Automattic, the company behind Jetpack and Akismet, which processes form submissions, newsletter subscriptions, site statistics, and spam checks.
- Google, for fonts, as noted above.
- Email services that deliver messages and newsletters.
- Affiliate partners such as Amazon, when you click their links.
- Authorities or other parties when the law requires it, or to protect the site or people’s safety.
Amazon may also monitor and record information about visitors to this site in connection with its links, as described in its program terms.
The newsletter
Every email includes an unsubscribe link. Use it at any time, or email me and I’ll remove you.
Children
This site is meant for adults and is not directed at children under 13. I do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has sent me information, email me and I will delete it.
How long I keep information
I keep contact messages for as long as I need to respond and keep reasonable records. Newsletter addresses are kept until you unsubscribe. Comments stay on the post until you ask me to remove them. Server logs and analytics are kept by those providers on their own schedules.
Your rights and choices
You can ask me to tell you what personal information I have about you, to correct it, or to delete it, and you can unsubscribe or opt out of cookies as described above. Email therobyneffect@gmail.com and I’ll respond as soon as I can.
California and other U.S. states. Residents of some states have additional rights over their personal information, including the right to know, delete, and correct it, and to opt out of the sale or sharing of it. I do not sell your personal information. Cookies set by third parties when you click their links are controlled by those companies.
Visitors from the UK and EU. I process your information where you have given consent (for example, subscribing to the newsletter), where it is needed to reply to you, or where I have a legitimate interest in running and securing the site. This site is run from the United States, so your information may be transferred to and stored in the U.S. and the countries where my service providers operate.
Security
I use reasonable measures to protect your information, but no website or email is completely secure, so I can’t guarantee absolute security.

This site links to other websites. I’m not responsible for their privacy practices, so please read their policies before sharing your information.
Changes to this policy
I may update this page from time to time. When I do, I’ll change the date at the top. Using the site after a change means you accept the updated policy.
